We’re excited to share a major victory for the trucking industry in North Carolina!
NC Senate Bill 311, featuring key protections from the Commercial Vehicle & Cargo Protection Act, has passed with unanimous support in both chambers of the General Assembly.
This important bill includes:
A ban on booting and immobilizing commercial motor vehicles
A requirement that commercial cargo must be released promptly after a tow — preventing freight from being held hostage due to unrelated disputes
These provisions will protect truckers from predatory towing practices and keep freight moving efficiently across the state.
A big thank you to Representatives Branson, Loftis, Schietzelt, and Hawkins for their leadership in making this happen. Their bipartisan commitment highlights the vital role trucking plays in North Carolina’s economy.
Now, we await Governor Stein’s final approval. Meanwhile, we thank our partners and members who supported this effort and continue working toward safer, fairer conditions for commercial motor carriers.
